Oak Lake

Slidell, Louisiana

Serve a rapidly-growing population with a responsible, environmentally sound, modern subdivision that enhances lifestyle and value of the area, maximizing the preservation and use of existing trees and vegetation.

D.R. Horton identified unused, formerly cleared pasture land as an opportunity to improve and add value to the area and region. It developed a residential plan with increased and improved drainage and renewed vegetation by creating large, picturesque retention ponds serving two purposes: temporarily retaining water from storm events, and as cooling, aesthetically pleasing, recreational ponds

Development preserved existing mature oak trees, enhanced at night with uplighting. A unique statement entrance, walking trails and playground add to the amenities.

A well-designed roundabout on the adjacent throughway was built specifically for maximum
ingress and egress with minimal impact to passing traffic. This roundabout was aligned intentionally with an existing community across the thoroughfare to promote access and connectivity.

The Developer worked closely with Ascension Parish and state agencies to use Oak Lake as a solution for area infrastructure needs; with a plan for above-and-beyond minimal requirements to aid in corridor enhancement.

Now completely developed and occupied, Oak Lake is built and designed with sustainability and resilience in mind; a community that is beautiful, responsible and safe, enhancing the natural landscape rather than detracting.
